The whiskey makers of Uncle Nearest recently secured ownership of Domaine Saint Martin, an estate in Cognac, France. And that purchase includes 50 acres of Grande Champagne vineyards.

The goal? To branch further into the spirits industry with Cognac.

Uncle Nearest founder Fawn Weaver shared her vision to create the first spirit conglomerate to be built by a woman or person of color back in 2020.

In a statement from Uncle Nearest, Weaver noted that this move marks the brand’s foray into a new spirits category, with more to come about the Cognac launch in 2024.

As a refresher, Uncle Nearest was built on the story of Nearest Green. Weaver first explored Nearest’s legacy with the intention of telling his story to the masses, which unfolded into creating one of the top black-owned spirit brands.

Weaver and her team at Uncle Nearest continue to shine a light on the stories of the people and history behind spirits, and they plan to produce a short film, accompanied by extensive research, that explores the history of Cognac. This before the official brand launch of their new spirit.
