A fantastic bourbon just got a unique twist as Great Jones Distilling Co. recently launched its latest whiskey, a 7-year-old Peated Scotch Cask Bourbon.
The limited-edition bourbon may be hard to find, as it is only available at the New York distillery, but the release is of interest as the innovation of the cask finish could lead to a wider trend.
The amazing liquid was selected by Great Jones’ Head Distiller Celina Perez. She noted that the whiskey was made in small batches from 100% New York grown corn, barley, rye and wheat, grown in the Black Dirt region of Warwick County. It was cut with New York water.
The bourbon clocks in at 48% ABV, 96 proof, and comes in a special, bespoke gift box. The peaty, smoky Scottish character meets the bourbon, and is bottled in the Big Apple. It has a suggested retail price of $150 a bottle.
The distiller’s notes show that on the nose, the bourbon features light floral aromas of smoke, oak and on the palate, it tastes of mesquite and tobacco with honey and toasted marshmallow. It has a creamy mouthfeel and a balanced finish.
