Bruichladdich Distillery Company, which calls Scotland’s Islay home, recently released its Port Charlotte 18 Year Old whisky, which stays true to the classic vibrancy of the heavily-peated Port Charlotte spirit.
The makers of the peated spirit note that it’s been matured in a combination of refill sherry casks (74%) and refill French oak wine casks (26%), which brings the tastes of dried fruit and sweetness to the single malt, and complements Port Charlotte’s barbeque peat smoke.
Interestingly, Port Charlotte 18 Year Old is the oldest ever expression of Port Charlotte Islay Single Malt to be released.
For this release, Bruichladdich uses 100% Scottish barley, their latest expression that’s matured exclusively on Islay. In fact, it matures right next to the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, influenced by by Islay’s unique locale and temperate climate – with a hint of sea salt.
The single malt is peated (40 PPM) and clocks in with a cask strength of 54.3% ABV. Port Charlotte 18 Year Old is a limited release of only 6,000 bottles. It’s now available for purchase online at ReserveBar.com or at selected specialist whisky retailers with a suggested retail price of $199.99.
