High West’s 2024 “Bourye” release is a unique blend of bourbon and rye whiskeys, and is among the brand’s most coveted sipping whiskeys.
This year’s Bourye mash bill is made up of:
- Straight Rye Whiskey: 95% rye, 5% barley malt from MGP; 80% rye, 20% malted rye from HWD
- Straight Bourbon Whiskey: 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% barley malt from MGP; 78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley from KY.
The whiskey was made with no chill filtration and has no flavor added. It clocks in at 46% ABV and was aged more than 10 years in new, charred white American oak barrels. You will only be able to get the offering from the High West Saloon in Wanship, Utah, where the distillery is located. It has a suggested price of $124.99 a bottle.
The distiller’s notes show that on the nose, the 2024 Bourye has aromas of green apple with maple syrup drizzle, butterscotch squares, toasted almond biscotti, sage, balsam de Peru and sun-weathered oak. It tastes of dried Bing cherries, brown butter shortbread with grilled peaches, French vanilla mousse, candied ginger and cedar. It finishes with flavors of warm chai tea with grated nutmeg.
