Moët Hennessy and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter just announced the launch of a brand new American whisky … SirDavis. And it’s now available for pre-order.
The new whiskey was built alongside industry veteran Dr. Bill Lumsden, and the unexpected take on American rye whisky features a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% barley. It has a secondary maturation in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
The makers of SirDavis note the goal of the spirit was to blend the elegant mouthfeel and texture reminiscent of Japanese and Scotch whiskies with the robust, deep flavors typical of classic American rye. This was suited to Knowles-Carter’s whisky ideal.
The new whiskey was named after Davis Hogue, Knowles-Carter’s paternal great-grandfather who worked as a farmer and moonshiner in the American South during Prohibition.
Interestingly, SirDavis was anonymously submitted to a selection of prestigious spirits competitions prior to launch, where it earned Best In Class for American Whiskey from the 2023 SIP Awards, among other accolades.
The whiskey makers tasting notes show that on the nose, SirDavis features scents of oranges mingling with raisins, and spices of clove, cinnamon, and ginger along with notes of Demerara sugar and toffee.
On the palate, tastes of toffee and an array of spices with cinnamon, clove, and classic rye are up front, with biscuity notes to follow. It has a citrus top note. Hints of honey, sultanas and ripe cherries are on the finish.
SirDavis clocks in at 88 proof, 44% ABV. It has a suggested retail price of $89 a bottle.
