Tequila OCHO just dropped their latest release: Plata Puntas 2024, their strongest overproof tequila yet. It will hit liquor store shelves in a few weeks.
This is the third year in a row that Tequila OCHO has upped the ABV for their Plata Puntas, now at a robust 108 proof (54% ABV).
Since its debut in 2022, Plata Puntas has become a seasonal favorite. This year’s version, crafted by Carlos Camarena, showcases the finest agave from Rancho Mirandillas in Jalisco, known for its high sugar content and exceptional quality. The careful selection process, using only the “neck and shoulders” of the distillation, gives Puntas 2024 its intense flavor and aromatic profile.
Commercial Director Fany Camarena noted that this process preserves more of the agave’s character, creating a tequila with rich flavors of cacao, butterscotch, and a creamy finish. The nose offers hints of agave, dried fruits, and salted chocolate.
Here’s the quick breakdown:
- ABV: 54% (108 proof)
- Bottle Size: 750 ml
- Cases Available in the USA: 3500
- Price: $74.99
- Availability: Nationwide
“Puntas” refers to the distiller’s choice cuts from the start of the heart and end of the heads, considered the most coveted parts of the distillate. Unlike many high-proof tequilas that use only the “heart,” Tequila OCHO’s Puntas 2024 incorporates these premium cuts for a truly unique tasting experience.
Tequila OCHO is renowned for its single estate production and traditional methods, including slow-cooking in brick ovens and distilling in copper pot stills. Their commitment to quality and artisanal techniques has earned them accolades, including Forbes’ recognition as the World’s Best Blanco Tequila.
