Kanosuke Distillery, nestled along Kagoshima’s beautiful mellow coast in Japan, recently launched three whisky expressions in the U.S. market. Say hello to Kanosuke Japanese Single Malt Whisky, Kanosuke Hioki Japanese Pot Still Single Grain Whisky, and Kanosuke Double Distillery Japanese Blended Whisky, crafted on Japan’s Kyushu Island.
As part of Komasa Jyozo, which has been making shochu since 1883, Kanosuke Distillery blends tradition with innovation. The techniques they’ve developed over 140 years … like vacuum distillation and the use of recharred shochu casks … give their whiskies a unique flavor that both seasoned whisky enthusiasts and newcomers will enjoy.
“We’re really excited to share our core range with American whisky fans,” said Yoshitsugu Komasa, the 4th generation founder and Master Blender. “I started Kanosuke Distillery to honor my grandfather, who was the first to age shochu in oak casks. Our goal is to showcase this wonderful spirit through the universal language of whisky. We can’t wait for you to experience our creations in the U.S.”
Located on a scenic 2.2-acre spot by Fukiagehama beach, their distillery benefits from a one-of-a-kind microclimate. The warm, humid summers and chilly winter winds help their whisky mature more quickly, resulting in a smooth and flavorful profile.
The distillery features three distinct pot stills, unlike the usual two found in similar-sized distilleries. Each still has its own unique shape, which creates rich and flavorful spirits.
