Lynchburg has done it again … and this time, the Jack Daniel’s team is pulling back the curtain on another “hidden gem” from its legendary hillsides. The newest addition to the brand’s coveted Single Barrel Special Release series is the Jack Daniel’s Tanyard Hill Rye, a bold, barrel proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey that captures the rugged beauty and seasonal rhythm of its namesake hill.

The Tanyard Hill Rye takes its place among Jack Daniel’s most prized limited releases … think of it as the next chapter after the much-loved Coy Hill expression. This rye was distilled back in November 2015 and spent nearly a decade maturing in Barrel House 1, one of the first rickhouses ever built atop Tanyard Hill. The location itself is steeped in distilling lore, tucked right next to the famed Coy Hill, and known for the dramatic swings between Tennessee’s summer heat and winter chill, conditions that bring out intense, layered character in the whiskey.

Master Distiller Chris Fletcher describes this release as another chance to show off the Lynchburg team’s craft and creativity:

“The Special Release series has been a great way for us to showcase our craft of whiskey making here in Lynchburg. Like Coy Hill was before, Tanyard Hill has been one of the hidden gems for locals familiar with the distillery grounds. We’re now bringing more people into this secret and can’t wait to see what our friends think of this special Tennessee Rye Whiskey.”

So what’s inside the bottle? The Tanyard Hill Rye follows Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye mash bill … 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley … and undergoes the brand’s signature charcoal mellowing before aging in new American White Oak barrels. The result is a whiskey with dark fruit and sweet oak on the nose, flavors of candied mint, dark chocolate, and baking spice, and a long, warm finish of clove, sweet tobacco, and oak.

Bottled at Barrel Proof, ranging from a fiery 130.2 to 148.8 proof (65.10% – 74.40% ABV), this limited-edition rye is not for the faint of heart. It’s a powerhouse pour that rewards slow sipping, a drop of water, and a good conversation.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye will be available in 700mL bottles at a suggested retail price of $79.99, rolling out in limited quantities across the U.S. this month.
