Well, well, well … looks like Frey Ranch has decided that subtlety is overrated.
The Nevada farm-to-glass distillery just dropped a brand-new whiskey into its permanent lineup, and this one absolutely arrives with boots on, chest out, and a healthy 124.52 proof swagger.
Meet Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut Rye, a six-year-old cask strength rye that joins the brand’s already beloved Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon as part of its flagship portfolio. In other words, if you liked the bourbon, the rye just showed up as its slightly spicier, slightly wilder sibling.
And honestly? We’re here for it.
Straight out of Fallon, Nevada, this new release is a full-throttle expression of what Frey Ranch does best: growing every single grain on-site and turning it into whiskey that tastes like it knows exactly where it came from.
This isn’t just rye whiskey.
This is 100% Canadian Winter Rye, grown on Frey Ranch’s sprawling 2,500-acre farm, then harvested, milled, and distilled right there on the property by co-founder and self-described whiskey farmer Colby Frey.
That’s about as farm-to-glass as it gets.
No dilution, no dialing it down, no watering it into submission. Bottled at cask strength, this rye comes exactly as it left the barrel … bold, rich, and unapologetically intense.
Basically, this whiskey skipped the small talk.
The nose opens with a surprisingly playful floral lift, followed by hints of root beer and candy cinnamon … which, let’s be honest, sounds like the world’s most sophisticated candy shop.
Then comes the palate, bringing notes of cream soda and coffee beans, before finishing with dried mint and fresh rye grain.
It’s the kind of pour that starts sweet, gets serious, and then leaves you thinking about it long after the glass is empty.
This is definitely a neat-or-on-the-rocks kind of whiskey.
No need to hide it in a cocktail shaker. This bottle clearly wants center stage.
According to Colby Frey, the move into a cask-strength rye was a natural next step after the runaway success of the Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon.
“Our Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon has outperformed even our wildest expectations,” he said, noting that premium rye whiskeys continue to see strong growth even as other parts of the whiskey category cool off.
Translation: rye is having a moment, and Frey Ranch came ready.
Part of what makes this release especially compelling is the story behind it.
The Frey family has been farming in Northern Nevada for 170 years, and that agricultural heritage is baked into every bottle. Their longtime motto … “Be good to the land and the land will be good to you” … is literally embossed on the bottom of each bottle.
That’s not just branding.
That’s family philosophy with a cork.
Founded in 2006 by Colby and Ashley Frey, the distillery has grown into one of the West Coast’s largest whiskey producers and one of the few in the country to grow 100% of its own whiskey grains on-site.
In a whiskey world full of sourced spirits and mysterious origins, Frey Ranch remains refreshingly transparent.
They grow it.
They distill it.
They bottle it.
They pour it.
And now they’ve given rye lovers a new reason to clear some shelf space.
The new Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut Rye is available now for $79.99 through the distillery’s online whiskey shop and in the Frey Ranch Tasting Room.
For those who enjoy their whiskey with a side of commitment, the distillery’s “Harvest the Savings” subscription program will also add this release later this year.
So yes, your favorite rye may now come with a recurring delivery schedule.
As it should.
Because if there’s one thing this bottle proves, it’s that Frey Ranch knows how to let the grain do the talking.
And in this case, it’s speaking very loudly.
