Some celebrity whiskey launches feel a bit like a cameo. This one feels more like an Oscar-worthy performance.

Woody Creek Distillers has announced the release of its William H. Macy Reserve Rye Third Edition, and let’s just say, this bottle is not here to play a supporting role.

Arriving May 15, this limited-release rye comes straight from the Rocky Mountain air of Basalt, Colorado, where Woody Creek continues to prove that great whiskey and great scenery are a pretty unbeatable pairing.

And yes, William H. Macy … actor, Emmy winner, and now proudly self-proclaimed “spokesdude” … is once again lending his palate and personality to the project.

“I’m a rye whiskey guy; always have been,” Macy says. “For me, that’s America’s drink.”

Honestly, hard to argue with that.

This third edition was selected during a blind tasting led by Macy alongside Woody Creek’s Head of Distillation Stephen Julander, co-founders Mary and Pat Scanlan, and bar world standout Sean Kenyon. The result is a five-barrel blend chosen for its balance, depth, and character … basically the whiskey equivalent of someone who’s charming, intelligent, and still knows how to have fun at the party.

And the specs? They’re pretty impressive.

This is a 10-year-old bottled-in-bond rye, clocking in at 100 proof (50% ABV), with a mashbill led by 83% Elbon rye, plus Colorado-grown corn and malted barley, all milled onsite.

In other words, this whiskey has roots.

On the nose, expect butterscotch, lavender, citrus, and spice, which sounds almost like a dessert menu written by a poet.

The palate leans beautifully into classic rye territory with notes of pecan, molasses, tea, and coffee, before finishing long, warm, and spicy … the kind of finish that politely insists you take another sip just to be sure.

At $199.99 per 750ml bottle, this is definitely a splurge bottle, but it’s also one designed for collectors, rye enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys a pour with a little star power.

Woody Creek, perched high in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, has built a reputation for spirits that genuinely reflect where they come from. From local grains and family-farm sourcing to pure Rocky Mountain water, the distillery leans heavily into a sense of place … and it shows in the glass.

Macy may be the face of the release, but this whiskey clearly has the substance to back up the celebrity shine.

As he puts it: “I hope everybody enjoys this liquid.”

Something tells us they will.

Whether you’re a devoted rye drinker, a collector hunting limited editions, or simply curious what happens when an acclaimed actor and a Colorado distillery team up for a third act, this one sounds well worth raising a glass to.

Encore, anyone?
