If there’s one thing the world didn’t necessarily need … but we’re very glad it now has … it’s a super-premium Jamaican rum dreamed up with a little help from rock royalty. Enter Crossfire Hurricane, the new rum from Kite Drinks created in collaboration with The Rolling Stones, and yes … it’s as bold and swagger-filled as you’d hope.
This isn’t just another celebrity spirits project slapped together with a famous name and a flashy label. Crossfire Hurricane actually leans into something real: the band’s long-standing love affair with Jamaica. More than 50 years ago, the Stones found themselves on the island during a creatively electric (and slightly rebellious) chapter of their career. The music they made there … and the cultural immersion that came with it … left a lasting mark. This rum is less a nostalgia play and more a liquid continuation of that rhythm, energy, and attitude.
And speaking of the liquid, this is where things get serious in the best possible way.
Kite Drinks brought in global rum authority Ian Burrell (a name that carries real weight in rum circles) to help shape the blend. The result? A thoughtfully crafted Jamaican rum that pulls from some of the island’s most respected distilleries … Hampden Estate, Long Pond, Worthy Park, and Clarendon. If you know rum, you know that’s basically an all-star lineup.
The blend combines both pot and column still distillates, layering different fermentation styles to create something that’s unmistakably Jamaican: bold tropical fruit notes, that signature high-ester “funk,” and enough depth to keep your attention well past the first sip.
Crossfire Hurricane launches with two expressions:
- Gold – bright, versatile, and ready to play nicely in cocktails (though it’s perfectly happy on its own)
- Reserve – a richer, more complex pour built around older pot-still rums, designed for sipping and savoring
What’s refreshing here is the clear focus on authenticity. Kite Drinks isn’t just chasing the celebrity spirits trend … they’re aiming to build something with credibility, culture, and staying power. As co-founder Vincent Gillet puts it, the goal is to bring together music, storytelling, and premium rum in a way that actually resonates with modern drinkers.
And early buzz suggests they’re onto something. The brand is already rolling out across multiple markets, including the U.S., U.K., and parts of Europe, with placements in retailers like Total Wine & More and Tesco, along with a growing presence in cocktail bars and restaurants.
At the end of the day, Crossfire Hurricane feels less like a gimmick and more like a well-produced album: thoughtfully constructed, rooted in real experience, and just edgy enough to stand out in a crowded field.
So whether you’re a die-hard Stones fan, a rum enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates a good pour with a good story behind it, this is one worth checking out.
Because let’s be honest, if you’re going to sip something inspired by rock ‘n’ roll history, it might as well come with a little Jamaican heat and a whole lot of attitude.
