Jack Daniel’s is heading back up Coy Hill, but this time it’s bringing rye whiskey along for the ride. The Lynchburg distillery has announced its 2026 Single Barrel Special Release, Coy Hill Rye, a limited-edition Tennessee rye whiskey aged for 10 years at the highest elevation point on the distillery grounds.

It’s a first for the brand. While Coy Hill has become known for producing some of Jack Daniel’s most powerful and talked-about whiskeys, this is the first time rye whiskey aged in its famed Coy Hill barrelhouses has been bottled as a Single Barrel release.

The whiskey starts with Jack Daniel’s familiar Tennessee Rye mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. After charcoal mellowing, it went into new, charred American white oak barrels in 2016, where it spent a decade aging in Barrelhouse 1–13 atop Coy Hill.

That location matters. The higher elevation brings significant seasonal temperature swings, creating a challenging environment for whiskey as it moves in and out of the wood. The result is a barrel-proof release with individual barrels ranging from 128.7 to 148.5 proof. That’s a pretty wide range, so no two bottles are guaranteed to be exactly alike.

According to Jack Daniel’s, the whiskey offers aromas of orchard fruit, honey and toasted oak, followed by citrus sweetness, light molasses, black tea and robust oak on the palate. The finish brings sweeter rye notes and lingering barrel spice.

Master Distiller Chris Fletcher says the annual Special Release series gives the distillery room to push its whiskey-making craft, and Coy Hill has been responsible for some of its most acclaimed releases.

The new rye follows 2025’s Tanyard Hill Rye and joins a growing family of Coy Hill expressions, including the 2024 Coy Hill Barrelhouse 8 Tennessee Whiskey and the 2021 Coy Hill High Proof, which set a record for the highest-proof whiskey ever released by Jack Daniel’s at the time.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill Rye is available now at select retailers nationwide in 700 mL bottles, with a suggested retail price of $89.99.

For rye fans, it’s a chance to see what a decade on Coy Hill can do when Jack Daniel’s gives its rye whiskey the same high-elevation treatment that helped make the location famous.
