Jack Daniel’s has added another hard-to-find bottle to its popular Distillery Series lineup, and this one is all about what happens when Mother Nature takes control.

The legendary Tennessee distillery just announced Distillery Series Selection #17, a limited-edition High Angel’s Share Straight Tennessee Whiskey that spent nearly a decade aging in the hottest reaches of its Coy Hill barrelhouses. The result is an intensely concentrated whiskey that will be available exclusively in Tennessee, making it another must-have release for collectors and fans of the iconic brand.

High Angel’s Share Straight Tennessee Whiskey proves sometimes less really is more. Well, less whiskey in the barrel, anyway.

If you’ve spent much time around whiskey lovers, you’ve probably heard the term “angel’s share.” It’s the portion of whiskey that naturally evaporates while aging in oak barrels. Distillers have accepted this heavenly tax for centuries, but in this case, Jack Daniel’s leaned into it.

The whiskey was originally barreled in 2016 and spent its entire aging journey on the very top floors of the distillery’s Coy Hill Barrelhouse 1-13. Those upper floors are where Tennessee summers really turn up the heat. Higher temperatures mean more evaporation, which also means the whiskey left behind becomes increasingly concentrated, developing bold flavors that might not appear under more traditional aging conditions.

According to Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher, this release showcases what can happen when nature is allowed to take the lead. The intense heat created a much higher angel’s share than normal, leaving behind a whiskey with remarkable depth and richness.

The resulting pour sounds like comfort food in a glass. Expect notes of brown sugar, banana nut bread and a drizzle of maple syrup, followed by a long finish layered with oak and plenty of warm spice. At a batch proof of 138.4, this isn’t exactly a casual porch sipper. A splash of water may be your friend, although adventurous whiskey fans will probably want to experience it neat before deciding.

Like the rest of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series, exclusivity is part of the appeal. This isn’t a bottle you’ll casually stumble across at your neighborhood liquor store. It’s available only in Tennessee and at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg. Bottled in 375 ml bottles with a suggested retail price of $44.75, it’s the kind of release that gives whiskey fans one more reason to plan a pilgrimage to whiskey country.

Limited releases have become increasingly common across the bourbon and American whiskey world, but the Distillery Series continues to stand apart by offering experiments and one-off creations that often never see national distribution. For collectors and Jack Daniel’s enthusiasts alike, these bottles represent a chance to taste something that simply can’t be found anywhere else.

Sometimes the best souvenirs aren’t T-shirts or magnets. Sometimes they’re a bottle of whiskey that spent a decade battling Tennessee heat while the angels quietly helped themselves along the way.
