A new Heritage Collection brings together historic Western barware, one-of-a-kind pieces and a good cause

There’s something about a good whiskey glass with a little history behind it.

Pendleton Whisky is leaning into that idea with its new Pendleton Whisky Heritage Collection, a limited-time collection of vintage Western drinking vessels, commissioned artwork and some pretty interesting barware created in collaboration with Pendleton Woolen Mills.

The collection makes its debut this month at the Pendleton Round-Up in Oregon, which is fitting since that’s where Pendleton Whisky’s Western story began. And for collectors, the really interesting stuff is headed to auction.

At the top of the list is a one-of-a-kind sterling silver decanter created exclusively for Pendleton Whisky by Western silversmith Beau Compton. The decanter features hand-sculpted sterling silver scrollwork and the Pendleton Round-Up’s famous bucking horse, with the horse rendered in 10-karat rose gold.

It’s the sort of bottle you probably don’t hide in the back of the liquor cabinet.

The first Heritage Collection also includes six vintage drinking vessels sourced from collectors and artisans around the American West. Among them are a sterling silver buffalo skull flask from Montana silversmith Carol Helvey-Woolsey, a Wyoming steer horn drinking vessel, a cowboy boot decanter and cast-iron coaster from Dallas artist Jan Barboglio, a Montana flask connected to Helena coach George Arthur Harper, and stacked pewter drinking cups dating to the cattle-drive era of the 1800s.

There’s also a black glass horse-head decanter with hand-etched Western imagery.

So, yes, this is barware. But it’s barware with stories.

A Collection With a Cause

Here’s the part we really like.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sales of the Beau Compton decanter and the collector vessels will benefit the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

The money will help the museum preserve the stories, artwork and traditions of the American West that inspired the collection in the first place.

Bidding on the initial group is open through October 6, with starting bids ranging from $65 to $9,500. Details on later auctions will be announced as the collection travels.

And there’s a more accessible side to the project, too.

Pendleton Whisky has teamed up with Pendleton Woolen Mills on a collection of Western-inspired barware and accessories, including wool-lined wooden bar trays, leather-trimmed wool barware rolls, coasters and wool-and-leather cocktail glass wraps. The wool is woven at Pendleton Woolen Mills’ century-old mill in Pendleton, Oregon.

The Heritage Collection will travel to Fort Worth in December, followed by the National Western Stock Show in Denver in January of 2027, with new pieces and freshly commissioned works expected along the way.

So if your idea of a great bar includes a little Western history, this is one collection worth keeping an eye on. And if you happen to win one of those antique pewter cups, well… we think it deserves a pour of Pendleton.
