Six years of aging, a high-rye recipe, and a little campfire nostalgia make Ghostwood’s latest bourbon one worth sharing.
There’s something about a campfire, a few good stories, and a glass of bourbon that just seems to go together. Ghostwood Whiskey is leaning into that tradition with its new 3 Brothers Bourbon, a six-year-old whiskey inspired by founder Lucas Perks’ memories of spending nights in the woods with his two brothers.
And while the name might sound like the beginning of a ghost story, what’s inside the bottle is all about bringing people together.
Launched in October, 3 Brothers Bourbon is the fourth whiskey in Ghostwood’s core lineup and is designed to be an approachable introduction to the Montana-born whiskey brand. At $49 a bottle, it also comes in at a price that won’t require a family discussion before opening it.
The bourbon has a little family history baked into its recipe, too. The three brothers who inspired the whiskey are now all joining the family business, making this release something of a full-circle moment for Ghostwood.
A Little More Rye, A Little Less Mystery
Ghostwood 3 Brothers Bourbon is made with a traditional three-grain mash bill consisting of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley. That 36% rye gives it a little more spice and character than your everyday bourbon recipe.
The whiskey is distilled in Indiana, aged for six years in new American oak barrels with a No. 4 char, and bottled at 80 proof by Ghostwood Distilling Co. in Columbia, Illinois.
Interestingly, this release also takes Ghostwood back to its beginnings. The brand’s original whiskey-making foundation included four grains, with wheat eventually becoming part of its flagship expression. 3 Brothers leaves the wheat out, returning to the original three-grain combination that helped start the journey.
What’s in the Glass?
Ghostwood describes 3 Brothers as rich, balanced, and approachable, and the tasting profile sounds like a bourbon that knows how to keep things comfortable without being boring.
The dark amber whiskey opens with aromas of caramel, creamy vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, and roasted nuts. On the palate, caramel and vanilla take the lead, with dark chocolate, cocoa, and a subtle hint of smoke adding some depth.
The finish is warm and dry, with a smoothness that should make it an easygoing pour.
At 80 proof, this isn’t designed to knock anyone off their camp chair. Instead, it looks to deliver a well-rounded bourbon with enough rye spice to keep things interesting, whether you’re sipping it neat, adding a little water, or enjoying it around a fire with friends.
A Different Look for Ghostwood
There’s one other thing that makes 3 Brothers stand out. Unlike Ghostwood’s signature black-glass whiskey bottles, this new release arrives in a traditional clear bottle. It still carries the familiar Ghostwood label and distinctive cork topper, but the lighter look seems fitting for a whiskey built around family, memories, and a little outdoor adventure.
The new bourbon is available online for shipping to eligible states and began arriving at select Texas retailers in October.
Ghostwood’s lineup now includes Original Blended Bourbon, Barrel Proof Black, Chardonnay Cask, and the new 3 Brothers Bourbon.
At the end of the day, 3 Brothers Bourbon isn’t trying to reinvent the whiskey wheel. It’s a six-year-old, rye-forward bourbon with a solid recipe, an approachable price, and a story that feels genuine.
Sometimes the best whiskey stories aren’t about rare barrels or complicated finishing techniques. They’re about the people sitting around the table… or the campfire.
And if the bourbon is good enough to keep the stories going, well, that’s a pretty good reason to pour another glass.
