For whisky lovers who’ve ever dreamed about owning an entire cask instead of just a bottle, Artisan Casks is back with a lineup that feels a bit like the greatest hits album of Scotch whisky.
The exclusive private cask program from The Artisanal Spirits Company, the folks behind The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, has revealed its 2026 portfolio … and it’s packed with names that will make serious whisky fans stop mid-sip.
We’re talking a 32-year-old The Macallan, a 30-year-old Laphroaig, and a 34-year-old Mortlach, alongside a carefully curated roster of other mature single malts and even a rare single grain whisky from North British.
This isn’t your average barrel pick program. These casks start around $80,000 and quickly climb into six-figure territory depending on age, rarity, and size. Every cask is at least 20 years old and already mature enough to bottle, though owners can continue aging them for future milestones, celebrations, or simply because patience and whisky often make excellent partners.
The program is led by James Mackay, private client director at The Artisanal Spirits Company, who has spent more than a decade managing luxury whisky cask programs and cultivating relationships with collectors around the world. His approach seems to be less “investment portfolio” and more “once-in-a-lifetime whisky experience.”
And honestly, that’s part of the appeal here.
Owning one of these casks doesn’t just get you whisky. It gets you access to an insider-style whisky community complete with private tastings, exclusive events, distillery experiences, and gatherings planned for cities like London, New York, Singapore, and even the Bahamas in 2026.
One of the coolest details? Owners can request up to two bottles per year from their cask while it continues maturing. Each sample arrives with a whisky-maker’s maturation statement and evaluation, which feels delightfully nerdy in the best possible way.
The program already has some serious credibility behind it. The first-ever Artisan Casks bottling, Ancient Alba “AON” 1972, sold at the prestigious Distillers One of One 2025 charity auction for more than double its pre-sale estimate.
As for the 2026 collection itself, there’s plenty here to make collectors and peat heads equally happy.
Highlights include a richly matured Bowmore finished in Pedro Ximenez wood, a deeply sherried 35-year-old Caol Ila, and a 33-year-old blended malt charmingly titled “Speyside Symphony.” There’s also a beautifully aged Bunnahabhain, plus standout casks from Glen Garioch and Glen Grant.
The maturation details alone read like poetry for whisky geeks … re-fill bourbon hogsheads, first-fill Spanish oak Pedro Ximenez finishes, ex-bodega barriques, and decades of patient aging.
In other words, these are not impulse buys. These are legacy pours.
And in a whisky world increasingly obsessed with quick releases and flashy packaging, there’s something refreshing about a program centered on long-term craftsmanship, slow maturation, and sharing exceptional Scotch with fellow enthusiasts.
For the lucky few who can step into this rarefied corner of the whisky world, Artisan Casks is offering far more than a barrel. It’s offering a front-row seat to the art of whisky itself.
