The Hollywood star is helping take Archie Rose from Sydney to the States, with three Australian-made whiskies that have already earned plenty of international recognition.
Chris Hemsworth has spent plenty of time playing a Norse god on screen, but his latest venture is a little closer to home. The Australian actor has teamed up with Sydney-based Archie Rose Distilling Co. as a co-owner, and now he’s helping bring the distillery’s award-winning whiskies to American drinkers for the first time.
The timing makes sense. Australian whisky has been building a reputation beyond its home turf, and Archie Rose is arriving in the U.S. with some hardware already on the shelf. Its Straight Rye Malt Whisky has twice been named the World’s Best Rye Whisky, while its Single Malt Australian Whisky has earned the title of Australia’s Best Single Malt Whisky five times.
Not a bad introduction to a new market.
Hemsworth, best known for playing Thor in the Marvel movies, says he’s been an Archie Rose fan for years. His involvement goes beyond lending his name to a bottle, too. He’s helped reshape the brand’s identity, including a new flask-shaped bottle inspired by the Australian landscape, and produced a new global campaign featuring himself and his brother, Luke Hemsworth.
The idea is to put Australia’s land, ingredients and distilling talent front and center. And if you’re wondering whether this is just another celebrity putting his name on a bottle, Hemsworth seems to have a genuine interest in what goes into it.
The new American lineup includes three expressions, each with its own personality.
Three whiskies, three different approaches
Archie Rose Straight Rye Malt Whisky ($49.99)
This is the whisky that helped establish the distillery’s reputation. First released in 2019, it’s made with Australian-grown rye that’s malted locally to the distillery’s specifications. Bottled at 92 proof, it spends time in charred virgin American oak, picking up vanilla and caramel notes alongside herbal rye character and warming cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
Two World’s Best Rye Whisky titles suggest this one deserves a closer look from American rye fans.
Archie Rose Single Malt Australian Whisky ($59.99)
The single malt takes a different route, using six varieties of Australian barley malt. Archie Rose processes each malt separately before bringing them together, allowing the individual grains to contribute their own character.
Maturation in Australian fortified wine, European oak and American oak casks helps build a profile featuring roasted pecans, tropical fruit, toffee and sticky date pudding. The whisky has been named Australia’s Best Single Malt Whisky five times, making it the flagship of the new American lineup.
Archie Rose Australian Original Whisky ($39.99)
The newest addition to the core range is a blend of the distillery’s single malt and rye malt whiskies. Bottled at 80 proof, it’s the more approachable option of the three, with vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit, citrus and a biscuity rye character.
It should also be the most versatile of the bunch, whether you’re sipping it neat, pouring it over ice or putting it to work in a cocktail.
A whisky that starts in the field
All three expressions are made at Archie Rose’s Sydney distillery using Australian-grown grains. The team works with local farmers and maltsters, then ferments, distills and matures the different malts separately before blending them into the finished whisky.
The casks play an important role, too. Australian fortified wine barrels, European oak and American oak all contribute to the range, giving Archie Rose a way to develop its own identity rather than simply following the traditional Scotch or American whiskey playbook.
Founded in 2014 by Will Edwards, Archie Rose has spent more than a decade building its reputation. The distillery says its products have collected more than 450 international awards across its portfolio, which also includes gin.
Hemsworth’s arrival as co-owner in 2026 gives the company a recognizable face as it takes that Australian-made approach overseas. The new campaign, filmed across eight locations in Australia, aims to show off the landscape and people behind the whisky.
The new packaging also reflects a practical side of the brand’s ambitions. Its textured glass is inspired by the Australian earth where the grains are grown, while lighter glass and streamlined packaging reduce shipping weight. Archie Rose is also a certified B Corp, a designation recognizing commitments to social and environmental performance.
For American drinkers, the most interesting part is simple enough. These aren’t whiskies making their debut without a track record. The rye and single malt arrive with major awards behind them, while Australian Original offers a less expensive way to get acquainted with the distillery.
Hemsworth may be the name that gets people looking, but the whisky has already done some work of its own.
All three expressions are now making their U.S. debut, with suggested retail prices ranging from $39.99 to $59.99. For anyone curious about what Australia is bringing to the wider whisky conversation, Archie Rose looks ready to make a case for itself.
